With China heralded a force to be reckoned with on the world stage, it should come as no surprise that other countries are cowering or, at the very least, catering to the nation poised to steal the U.S.' superpower spotlight. This accommodation extends to hotels in addition to scared witless politicians.

Case and point: The Ritz London recently became the first hotel in Britain to install UnionPay card terminals, a decision "made to capitalise on this growing market and further increase the number of visitors to The Ritz from China." (Translation: the hotel is looking to rake in some serious scrill from wealthy Chinese tourists.)

UnionPay is "the only domestic bank card organisation" in China, and the newly installed machines are intended to make paying for The Ritz' swanky services ever-so-slightly easier for Chinese nationals. This is good news for travelers struck by a sudden Yuan yen for an in-room massage, desire for a traditional English Afternoon tea, and the like.
