Where Can I Find A Last-Minute Hotel In San Francisco For Under $200?

When we saw Alyson Shontell, reporter for Business Insider had booked herself a room in SF for a conference this week, but quickly regretted her choice of hotel, we felt guilty. We should have helped her back when she tweeted out for hotel selections in SF. But better late than never, right?

Well, our first thought was, eesh. September is a notoriously busy month for all hotels—not just in San Fran. But it turns out there are some good finds out there right now, and Union Square isn't exactly lacking in hotel options—so when you do find the good deals, it becomes that much more exciting! For starters, take the Palace Hotel, an historic hotel located just a few steps from the Montgomery St BART station, where a King bed starts at just $189.

Surprisingly, the two Holiday Inns located near Union Square (Holiday Inn Golden Gateway and Holiday Inn Civic Center both come in well above our $200 limit (one at $250, the other at $320!). So, thanks but no thanks Holiday Inn.

Rounding out the list is a Queen bed at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square for $203, which suddenly became much more appealing when we remembered they have an outdoor pool deck and jacuzzi on the sixteenth floor of the hotel. Add to that, the 124-room Hotel Fusion, a boutique hotel with Asian decor, wood accents, and general warm, welcoming vibe. A Twin bed here starts at $209, a notch above our required $200, but for location, it can't be beat—the hotel (and its swanky Infusion lounge and restaurant) sits just two blocks from Union Square.

Have we done right by @shontelaylay? Do you know of any current SF hotel deals near Union Square that we've missed out on? Let us know in the comments below!

Hotel Tonight

This app for the iPhone is simply amazing. Really recommend it for "in a pinch situations" like this. We use it all the time for friends visiting NYC... to the point that few of them book in advance anymore.

(i have no vested interest in the app; just really nails the problem you're outlining here).
