Millenium Hilton is Now Suing Ground Zero Over Construction Noise (And We Can Vouch for That)

Millenium Hilton hasn't had it very easy this past decade. When September 11 happened, one side of the hotel was completely blown out forcing closure of the hotel for nearly two years.

When we checked in with the hotel on the 5th anniversary of 9/11, things were settling down into a new kind of normal for the hotel, just like everyone else in the city was doing. But the hotel's proximity to Ground Zero with its strange mixture of 9/11 memorials and frenetic construction was unavoidable. And now five years later, it's gotten so bad the hotel is filing a lawsuit.

According to the NY Post, the hotel is suing both the Port Authority, which owns the site, and Silverstein Properties Inc., who is the developer of Towers 2, 3 and 4 for a total of $8 million claiming:

The 569-unit, 55-story hotel "has lost hundreds of nights' worth of business in a single month due to customers relocating after one night of enduring noise, including the blasting of rock, and physical vibrations resulting from the construction," says the suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

And you know what? We believe them because it happened to us. Well, to contributor JetsetCD actually. Here's what she wrote about the hotel back in 2008:

Initially we dove into the minibar to check out the goods, but our attention was instead diverted by a rumpled notice on the nightstand. The polite note from the Millenium Hilton's management apologized for the noise of the nearby construction and came complete with safety-orange earplugs. Turns out, the 24-hour work, being done on none other than the World Trade Center site below, was noisy enough for us to break out the plugs.
