It’s turning into a fully fledged cultural Wuv-in at the W London right now. First, the (W)riters Library. Now, something that will appeal to design freaks and health heads alike: bikes!

But knowing W, these aren't just any old bikes. Each unit was built by Benedict Radcliffe and designed by Ron Arad, Natasha Law, Alice Temperley, Paloma Faith and Patrick Cox. This is far, far better than those projects where celebs “customize” a tote bag by scrawling something childish on it – each bike has been specifically tailored to the celeb’s exact specifications. And between ghettoblasters, hatboxes, and flashing neon tubes, the selection makes for quite a colorful array.

Paloma Faith’s is all retro, with a Robert’s Radio on the front and a hatbox on the wheel, Natasha Law’s has a tray of Wyld shot glasses and a bottle of Belvedere, Alice Temperley’s is painted a signature leopard print, and Patrick Cox’s has a giant ghettoblaster attached to the front.

Radcliffe has also designed one himself – a fixed gear bike, inspired by the W New York, with flashing neon tubes laid out in a Manhattan street pattern.

But the most spectacular is Ron Arad’s, which he’s called “reinventing the wheel”. It has metal wheels that look more like daisies than circles, but it’s a fully functioning bike (albeit a slightly bumpy ride – we gave it a roll last week).

The best thing about the project? Other than Arad’s, which will be hung in the lounge, all the bikes will be available for guests to use. You can take them for a spin around (yes, inside) the hotel itself; though if you go outside, for security reasons, you’ll have to stump up to take a personal trainer with you. On the plus side, the celebs have also recommended riding routes, from a trip round Regent’s Park (Patrick Cox) to a ride along the Hackney canals (Paloma Faith).

The drawback: the bikes will only be available until October; after that, they’ll be auctioned off on Facebook to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. We’ll try not to be bitter, seeing as it’s for charity. The moral of the tale: catch them while you can. So you can do this:
