The hotel, according to this CBS news reporter, is "known for its top quality security," and detectives believe the theft was "well-thought-out, well-planned-out." Certainly, an 11" x 6" etching would have been easy enough to slip under a shirt or into a briefcase. Probably not so easy to get back into the hotel. But we haven't given up hope yet.
The private collection was part of a weekly exhibit hosted at the hotel by the Linearis Institute, which has a Chagall exhibition scheduled for the fall.
UPDATE: It seems the Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey isn't the only LA hotel that had issues this weekend: the LA Times reports on a man who set fire to a bathrobe inside a third-floor room at the JW Marriott Los Angeles!
The incident took place on Saturday morning, and though the "small fire" was put out, two people were taken to the hospital.
