Recently, a handful of companies made bids on the floundering property, though no statements have since been released to confirm anything. It would be safe to assume that the hotel will eventually find a buyer (its location is just too hard to pass up), but to plan on an early September reservation might be pushing it.
What do we know? What we think we know is that the hotel has begun the hiring process. But we also know that many openings get delayed by weeks, or even months, by staff training alone.
Which brings us to our final point. Dear Copenhagen reader, if it's a hotel gamble you're after this September, why not make it the Sanctuary? According to owner Hank Freid, all that's left is to do is train the staff and make sure their S.T.A.R. program is calibrated and ready to go for a September opening.
Considering HotelChatter contributor Chanize spent a night there back in June, and the fact that the Sanctuary sign has officially replaced the old Portland Square one, this would be the safer bet. Rates, though more expensive than the Flatiron, start at $299 for a Superior Queen—actually a better deal than that other Flatiron District-located hotel, the Ace.
