Perhaps the forthcoming Hyatt 48Lex was a little too eager with its opening date. After first announcing that it would open in August, the hotel decided to one-up itself and take reservations for July 18 instead.

We got all excited thinking we could stay inside a hotel room with its very own dishwasher in the middle of Manhattan then but we've gotten word today that the hotel ain't gonna make it on time.

A reservation-holding tipster just forwarded us the letter that Hyatt is sending to guests, telling them the hotel will not be open during their stay and instead they will be shuffled off to the Grand Hyatt New York.

Dear *****

We are contacting you regarding your upcoming reservations for the Hyatt 48 Lex in New York City. Regrettably we have had a few delays with some of the New York City permitting processes. Due to these delays, the scheduled opening date for our hotel has been moved to a later date in August 2011.

Your reservations scheduled for 7/25/2011 to 7/26/2011 under confirmation number ******* will be honored at the Grand Hyatt New York, just six short blocks away from our property. We truly apologize for this inconvenience and hope to welcome you to the brand new Hyatt 48 Lex the next time that your travels bring you to New York City.

Please contact our office at 800-323-7249 for any further reservations assistance.

Warmest Regards,

Geoff Berman

Double bummer. Bummer for not opening until August and another bummer for having to stay at the Grand Hyatt New York, which is a fine hotel and all but definitely not new. And definitely not with as many cool amenities as Hyatt 48Lex.

Even more discouraging, we still couldn't find any rooms open at the Hyatt 48Lex in August. So the hotel might not even open until after Labor Day.

On the bright side, maybe Hyatt 48Lex is taking the extra time to decide to change its name. Wishful thinking? Yes, probably. Shucks.

Cool Room

It's a shame that this place won't open in time for my next trip to NYC, the room looks very cool. I really like the direction that Hyatt is heading with their design. And I absolutely LOVE that desk chair!
