Could 237 Duffield Street Be Drawing Inspiration From The Ace Hotel?

UPDATE: A spokesperson for V3 Hotels got in touch this afternoon to inform us that, while one of the Duffield St hotels (the 718, to be specific) is set for a November opening, the other hotel over on 237 Duffield St has been pushed back, and an estimated completion date has not been set.

V3 Hotels, whose fresh-faced owner, enjoyed some publicity back in 2007, is in charge of two hotels going up on the same block in Brooklyn.

The two buildings, which sit across the street from the Sheraton Brooklyn and the brand new Aloft Brooklyn, are still deep in the construction phase (a quick walk down Duffield Street won't show you much except for scaffolding and some grumpy construction workers).

We already know Indigo will be operating one of them. But other than that? We ended up looking elsewhere for a little insight.

Luckily for us, BuyChinaDirect.com, whose CEO we met at the Z Hotel's opening party, is currently being considered as one of the suppliers for one of the V3 projects on Duffield Street (specifically, the 237 Duffield location). BCD also supplied all the furniture inside the 100-room Z Hotel, and you can see some of that work in our video here.

CEO Jake Phipps was willing to share some of his design ideas for the project (V3 will make the decision—or not—to hire Phipps' company by the end of next week).

Phipps explains the role his company could play in the new Brooklyn property:

We're in what you'd call the 'bidding stage' right now, so I can't really say for certain. Of course, what I did at the Z Hotel helps influence a lot of what I'm doing. As of now, nothing is signed, sealed and delivered.

On the boutique side, everyone is looking for a new edge, they want to be a little more creative. The Ace hotel has done a very different concept that has actually worked out in their favor. V3 is definitely on the boutique side—you have to take everything into consideration."

What Phipps was able to share with us were the design ideas his firm has submitted to V3: white lacquer desks, full (read: giant) headboards, and wall-mounted night stands. Phipps estimated the total timeline for hotel furnishing processes like these—from design (6 months) to manufacture (90 days) to delivery and installation (20-30 days) to final touchups (30-60 days)—at about ten months.

Which would mean his calculated opening date of October 2011 for the V3 is slightly off—if the hotel hasn't even chosen a supplier yet, how do they expect to open in just three months?
