The Sofitel Housekeeper Speaks Out About DSK Assault

July 25, 2011 at 8:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

New details of the alleged sexual assault of a hotel houskeeper by former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn have come out--this time from the housekeeper herself.

Nafissatou Diallo recently sat down for an interview with both Newsweek magazine and ABC News revealing not only her name but also her face. Her story is graphic and at times painful to read, especially when she says doctors found a partial ligament tear in her left shoulder weeks after the incident, weeks after DSK allegedly forced her to perform oral sex on him.

DSK's defense team is still insisting that any sexual contact, however rough it may have been, was consensual (there is undeniable DNA evidence that a sexual interaction occurred.) But even if Diallo's story of the sexual attack is true, some of her statements still don't match up.

Apparently at the hospital after the attack she told the counselors there that Mr. Strauss-Kahn had not spoken to her but in the Newsweek interview she says he told her, "You don't have to be sorry," when she walked in on him naked in his room and that she was beautiful before grabbing her breasts.

Newsweek also said that she gave vague responses when they asked her about her past in her native Africa and that at times her tears seemed "forced." And while she initially told the grand jury that she went to her supervisor immediately after the attack, now she says she actually cleaned DSK's suite first:

Disoriented, she seems to have sought some kind of solace in resuming her routine. “I went to the room I have to clean,” she explained. But she couldn’t think how or where to start. “I was so, so, so—I don’t know what to do.”

Also not helping her case are the reports that she lied on her asylum application to the U.S., that she lied on her taxes about how many children she has and that she understated her income to qualify for cheaper housing.

The NYT surmises that Diallo has gone public with her story in a very public effort to get the district attorney to prosecute the case. The DA is reportedly wavering from doing so because there are so many inconsistencies in her story and past. However, Newsweek reports that the prosecution does have faith in their case thanks to concierge who said that DSK made a pass at her earlier in the evening the day Diallo says he attacked her, as well as the physical evidence found in suite 2806.

This is just the latest twist in the scandal and there are sure to be more whether or not the prosecution goes ahead with their case against DSK. For now, Newsweek said that Diallo would love to return to working in a hotel, just not at her former $25 an hour job (plus tips) as she dreads opening the door to say, "Hello? Housekeeper.”
