It's About Time: Atlantic City Gets Its First Hotel Casino Gay Bar
For the longest time, New Yorkers and Philadelphans have been making the couple hour drive down to Atlantic City, NJ to relax, swim in the ocean, gamble a little bit and just generally party down. For an equally long time, gay travelers to Atlantic City haven't had anywhere in the hotels and casinos to get their own groove on...until now.
As part of a huge 1920s-themed renovation, the boardwalk-side Resorts hotel and casino has opened Prohibition, a nightclub which the New York Times is hailing as the "first full-time gay bar at any big American casino." The rainbow flag flies, there are drag show nights, and locals (like the city's entertainment workforce) as welcome just as much as tourists.
It's doubtless a huge step forward, and we're surprised to hear about it from Resorts, since they're not exactly the trendiest casino on the Boardwalk; Resorts is better known for their traditional, albeit fading, glamor. And let's just ignore for now the fact that Resorts is also introducing "Club Piscopo" and a naked circus show.
The whole NYT article on the resurgence of an LGBT scene in Atlantic City is a great short read. And since we're somewhat fans of the TV drama Boardwalk Empire and Resorts is bragging about their fresh, Roaring '20s looks, AC may just earn a coveted summer weekend spot on our calendar.
