If you don't want to bother waiting in line for the concierge or to get on a computer at the business center to get some info, the JW Marriott Chicago offers interactive signs that will give you the lowdown on everything from news to directions around the city.

The signs—which are positioned on the ground, second, third and fourth floors of the Chicago hotel—let you get all this information with the touch of a button, like a virtual concierge.

You'll be able to find downtown attractions; weather, travel and flight information; and headlines on the day's news and sports. The boards also have event listings, and you can plan your night by mapping out directions from the hotel. The digital signs also help you find directions to local spots as well as places within the hotel.

After the JW Marriott Chicago put up the signs, the JW Marriott Indianapolis and LA Live JW Marriott Los Angeles added the virtual concierges to their hotels. If you tech-loving types want to try one out, rooms start at $299 a night.

Whose Idea Was This?

Brilliant? Maybe not.

Marriott tickles our "geek" fancy with a story about Virtual Concierges, and what do we see:

  • the Virtual Concierge itself? No.
  • a photo of a helpful concierge? No.
  • how about an image of something vaguely "virtual" in its appearance, suggesting a cool new app? No

We see a photo of a generic hotel room that could be anywhere in the world, offered by any brand of hotel! Nothing that gives us any more information about the subject of the story at all.

This one got lost in the shuffle, or someone was asleep at the switch when putting this story together.
