Moroccan-born publicist Annie Ohayon has found her perfect job: curating a music series on top of Manhattan's Cooper Square Hotel. And she wants everyone to come. On Sunday, we caught African duo Amadou and Mariam performing there and saw just how popular the free concert series has become.

Angelique Kidjo, Moby and DJ Spooky have all made appearances at the lofty venue, whose stage is simply a mic stand in a corner of the room. Audience members who don't want to squeeze inside the penthouse studio can remain on the wraparound terrace, enjoying the views, and still get to enjoy the entire show. For a hotel that had been threatening to change ownership, this place was—at least on Sunday night—in high demand.

We spoke to Ohayon (who goes by Annie O) about how this world music concert series (which racked up 500 RSVPs for Sunday's show alone, prompting them to add an extra show time) of hers ended up here. Was it luck? Ingenious PR? Did she just ask nicely? As it turns out, Annie O has a kindred spirit in hotelier Klaus Ortlieb, the same man who offered her a retail space inside his inaugural Hotel On Rivington. Though the fancy toothbrush boutique is no longer, their partnership seems to have taken a new, more positive direction. Annie explained:

"I have to say, I am very lucky in that Klaus gives me total freedom when I am choosing the artists. It's exciting when someone trusts you to do what you know. All we're doing is giving the artists an opportunity to do something intimate. People get to have a drink, listen to amazing music, be close to the artists for forty minutes and then go home. This is the easiest job I've ever had!"

Luckily for Annie O, the relationship has also proven educational:

"There is no question that, just as I have introduced him to new kinds of world music, he has also introduced me to a whole new world of hotels, which I find amazing."

We wonder if he has ever taken her up to his suburban retreat in Pine Plains, NY. Seems like they'd have a lot to talk about over the course of a long weekend!
