We told you about the Westin overhauling its classic rooms. Now, the first of those newly designed rooms has been unveiled at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego.

The rooms got a summer makeover that goes with the brand's new slogan "A Better You." What does a better hotel room look like? For Westin, it's more space, neutral decor, sustainable materials and some cool multi-use furniture.

We'll start with our favorite new feature, the multipurpose furniture. An accent table folds into a room-service tray or laptop work station. A bench doubles as a luggage rack and it's stowed underneath the TV to take up less space. Speaking of space, an expanded closet gets some shelving to eliminate the need for bulky dressers in the room.

The rooms are now done up in beige and cream and use natural light-colored wood and stone. The bathrooms have a Heavenly Mirror (no, the Westin still hasn't dropped its "Heavenly" obsession) that have a frosted border that lights up like a humongous makeup mirror; it's supposed to allow light to be more softly and evenly diffused. Eco-friendly materials, such as LED and CFL lights and GreenGuard certified solar shades, are used in the rooms as well. The simple, refined aesthetic is supposed to be a soothing environment.

The guestrooms aren't the only things getting a facelift. The hotel's public areas, including its restaurants, will get an extensive renovation in 2012. If you want to try out one of the rooms, they start at $180 a night.
