TV Commercial Filming Outside The Flatiron Turns Ugly

The enigmatic Flatiron Hotel has left us in the lurch for quite some time now—first a giant fish tank, then a last-minute declaration of bankruptcy—and things only seem to be getting worse. An elaborate video shoot two weeks ago took over the entire block, and prompted spectators to take notice of the sitting-duck hotel. One passerby had this to say:
"I own a production company in a building that overlooks the hotel, and we can see inside the rooms. They look awful! I know they're looking for buyers, but they're going to have to do some serious renovations in there to get those rooms in shape. Right now the only thing that's even remotely appealing is the outdoor terrace, but that is always empty too. They don't seem to be making any progress at all."
It turns out the shoot, which was for a network commercial on TNT, barely made use of the hotel's interior at all, and the two actors were stationed outside the main entrance almost the entire time. To add to the chaos, a production team had set up a rain-making device (the unknown actor couple was also dressed to the nines, so we're guessing the scene involved some kind of overdone, hotel rendezvous scene), but the wet-and-windy real-life weather made it impossible for them to point the fake rain at the correct spot. Oh, movie magic!

This is clearly the most action the hotel's gotten in some time. While we're happy for it, we'd really like it to get a move on! The nearby Ace Hotel and Eventi Hotel certainly aren't waiting around for it to catch up!
