There's No Sex in The May Fair London's Champagne Room
Have you ever seen a Jeroboam of Belvedere vodka before? The May Fair London has, in fact it's sold one of the massive bottles—the equivalent of four regular bottles—at its swish 150 Lounge, a cushy haven for champagne drinkers that'll order you up a posh bottle of really any sort.
The 150 lounge originally opened in January, and we checked it out recently on a visit to London, mainly to gawk at its clear tower of Magnums of Moet & Chandon and Dom Perignon. Set back from the main, noisy bar area, 150 is designed to host groups of up to 36 people who have a taste for the finer things. You may choose your bottle like picking a fat lobster from the tank, or leave it up to the experts with two fully planned-out menus, each complimenting a treasured vintage: Dom Pérignon vintage 2000 or Dom Pérignon Vintage Rose 1998. The pricetag? Oh, just starting at £2,400 ($3,840), and that doesn't include a room for the night.
Okay, okay so that cash does get you four Magnums and four different dishes to enjoy among 12 people. Want the Rose instead? Starting price for those packages is £4,400 ($7,041). To eat, for example, with the Vintage 2000 package, you'll be plied with seared scallop with wild boar crust, cumin-crusted halibut on avocado hummus, lobster tail and tropical salsa with cumin creme fraiche, and Ottoman-spiced lamb cutlet with coconut and green harissa.
And just because we love to talk about food, here's the offerings on the Rose menu: Seared diver scallops with sevruga caviar remoulade, crispy spiced jumbo prawns with avocado and tahini, West Mersea oysters with sevruga caviar and szechuan buttons, and pomegranate-glazed foie gras.
Where do we sign up? Alas, each of these tasting experiences must be booked in advance to give the chefs time to prepare the intricate dishes and properly chill your champers.
