There Sure Is a Lot of Nip, Tucking Going On in Downtown Miami

Miami is loving it some Heat right now, but that's not the only action going on downtown. A number of hotels in the area are polishing themselves up, with two big luxury properties undergoing the knife (and paintbrush) this summer, and another already unveiling its new look.
The hotel already out of the gate is the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay, pictured above. It's fresh off a two-year, $31 million renovation, $17 million of which was devoted to overhauling the guest rooms. The upgrades in the 600 rooms include new hubs for laptop, MP3 player and video connections and rain-style shower heads in the bathrooms.
Also new is a 'reinvented' lobby with pod seating, LCD televisions, work nooks, and an Espressamente Illy café with indoor and outdoor seating.
On the fancier side of things, the InterContinental Hotel Miami is said to be spending around $22 million on renovating its rooms and corridors, with most of the work scheduled to take place in the slower summer period ahead.
Likewise, the Four Seasons Miami will be spending the low season getting a lil work done, embarking on a complete room redesign expected to be completed by November. The hotel will also start work on a brand new restaurant.
We look forward to seeing the 'After' photos of these makeovers come winter--and have our fingers crossed that the work will be more seamless than some of the human-variety plastic surgery we've seen in this town. (Oh, snap!)
