What's Brewing On Greenwich Street?

How much would you spend for a 50,000 square foot lot in lower Manhattan to develop your own hotel? What would your dream hotel look like? What uniforms would your staff wear? OK, we're only joking about the last two. But we're seriously curious what you all think—because a developer by the name of Fortuna Realty Hotel Soho just dropped $12.7 million on the riverfront space, which sits right above TriBeCa (not far from the Greenwich Hotel).

It's a fertile area for big-bucks properties, as we've seen Smyth Tribeca, Duane Street Hotel and Trump Soho all flourish there. In the back of our endlessly curious heads, a tiny voice asks if this purchase could tie into the yet-to-be-revealed Virgin Hotel location?

But, to stick to the facts:

The site at 523-25 Greenwich Street, near TriBeCa, SoHo and the West Village, was sold to Fortuna Realty Hotel SoHo, all but guaranteeing another hotel to bloom at a time when real estate experts are predicting a minor hospitality boom in the city.

Eastern Consolidated senior director Alan Miller said the hotel developer has plans to build a two-elevator hotel with 124 rooms that will rise more than 20 stories.

Two elevators? Now we know they mean business.
