The MO Morocco is No Mo'
Ladies, if you had your gilded hearts set on doing a Sex and the City/Real Housewives of New York trip to Morocco and staying at the new Mandarin Oriental in Marrakech we have some crushing news-The MO is no mo'.
A tipster tells us that the Mandarin Oriental, which was delayed last October for an early 2011 opening date then again until Summer 2011, has now been completely shelved and instead the property will be a Taj Hotel.
It will open this fall as the Taj Palace Marrakech. According to the Taj Hotels press release dated May 26th, the property will have 161 guestrooms, including 25 grand suites and one royal suite which is pretty much the same configuration the Mandarin Oriental was talking about.
Here's what else Taj has in store for the hotel:
Taj Palace Marrakech will feature several elegantly designed restaurants and bars serving a range of cuisine from Moroccan specialties to the finest flavors of Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. The hotel will also house an extensive Jiva Grande Spa across 3,800 square meters, with 14 treatment rooms including Ayurveda, two large hammams and a state-of-the-art fitness centre with 'Technogym' equipment.
Technogym? That sounds fantastic! We just hope they have a better concierge service than the other luxury hotel in town, La Mamounia.
