Ian Schragers' New Ambassador East Hotel to Open in October
After the onslaught of hotel openings last year, we admit we experienced a little bit of hotel opening fatigue. Oh jeez, another design hotel that promises excellent service and a rooftop bar? Joy.
Yet maybe it's the spring air or the fresh margaritas we've poured for Cinco de Mayo but we're now anxiously awaiting the reopening of the Ian Schrager-ized Ambassador East in Chicago and its storied Pump Room, where such stars as Humphrey Bogart and Judy Garland would dine.
The Ambassador East was set to open in September, but we've now got word from hotel officials that the Gold Coast will start previews September 12 with an official opening on October 11.
The hotel's website is still showing the old Ambassador but luckily, we already got the scoop on what the new Ambassador East will look like. "The way we build it, the people will come. It will be a sexy property with a big public space," Schrager told HotelChatter last year. "We really want to do a very stylish, simple, modern classic hotel that is really accessible to everybody."
If you want to try and glimpse the sexy property before it's unveiled to the world, you can do so now as the hotel will remain open through the renovation. We found rooms as low as $148.50, though expect rates to go waaaay up after October 11.
