Kimpton Wants You to Go Outside to Work Out

Memorial Day means that summer is here and two Kimpton Chicago hotels are celebrating by taking its fitness classes outside. But it won't be your run-of-the-mill alfresco yoga. You'll get schooled in some ballet basics, maneuver a Segway and get paid to walk in these new outdoor classes.

Work on your flexibility and toning at Hotel Palomar Chicago with its free hourlong Barre Bee Fit class, a blend of Pilates, dance, yoga and light weight work. Early risers can head to the hotel sundeck at 6:30 a.m. Wednesdays starting June 8 for the workout, which revolves around the ballet barre.

The hotel is also bringing back its popular Running with the Manager program, where a member of the hotel team will lead guests on a three- to four-mile job around Lake Michigan. The runs begin June 7 and happen Tuesdays as 6:15 a.m.

If you want another hotel-organized outing, try the Hotel Monaco Chicago's Glide with the GM program. Admittedly, we don’t think you'll burn many calories on this twice-a-week manager-led tour, since you'll be on a Segway. But c'mon, you'll ride a Segway and get to do your best Job from Arrested Development impression. The tours cost $59, but guests receive a $10 discount.

To get your heart rate up a little more, the Hotel Monaco offers one heck of incentive: money. Ask for a pedometer at the front desk, use it to record you hoofing it at least 10,000 steps—the daily amount recommended by the American Heart Association—and you will snag a $25 walking credit. You can use the credit toward your room for those accommodations that start at $159 a night or use it in the restaurant carbo-loading.
