New Orleans Marriott to Give out Beignets for National Doughnut Day

National Doughnut Day is coming June 3, and instead of celebrating with a boring jelly-filled or chocolate glazed, our mouth is watering for a good old N'Awlins beignet. The New Orleans Marriott is giving out free beignets every Friday in June to celebrate our new favorite holiday.

Beignets are deep-fried dough pieces covered in powdered sugar, similar to New York's zeppole, but square instead of round. The doughy, greasy goodness is the official Louisiana state doughnut.

The catch is that the NOLA hotel isn't exactly handing out the housemade beignets to passers-by. For its first Doughnut Day giveaway, the hotel says you have to go to its 5 Fifty 5 restaurant and either buy the $20 breakfast buffet, where the fried treats will be on offer from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m, or order an a la carte breakfast, and you'll be served a complimentary doughnut tasting.

It's a little tricky, but it's easier than braving the line at Cafe du Monde for the treats and, even better, you won't be limited to just one.
