The Un-Trump Fort Lauderdale Is Still Blowing in the Wind

The Fort Lauderdale hotel scene got its latest pop with the opening of B Ocean recently, but one other much-hyped opening--one that that crashed and burned--is still casting an empty shadow on the beach. We're talking about the ill-fated Trump Fort Lauderdale--which is no longer a Trump, and no longer much of anything, really...

When we last checked in on the project, we were hoping that someone else would scoop up the beachfront property, maybe in time for Christmas 2011. Yeah, well, thanks for nothing, Santa.

The Michael Graves-designed building remains empty, as The Miami Herald's Fred Grimm laments in this piece.

Grimm writes:

...Until this giant foreclosure mess is settled and a new buyer steps up, Graves’ luxury liner of a hotel, the unTrump, will remain the unrealized element in the old spring break town’s extravagant ambitions. “A void on the beach,” Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler called it. “A missing piece of the puzzle.”

We'd love to see this boat of a building fill up with the latest and greatest the hotel world has to offer.

What do you think? Which hotel, boutique or brand, would you like to see take over the unTrump? Let us know in comments below!

More Trump BS

Could anyone be fuller of hot air than that buffoon?  I think that in terms of his hotel business, he has had far more projects fail than open.
