We have to say: we welcome this news wholeheartedly. We quite like a good Kimpton, including the EPIC Hotel & Residences in downtown Miami. But we always wanted one at the beach, if only for the dog-friendly rooms, and the Free WiFi you score as a member of Kimpton's InTouch Rewards program.
Once upon a time, there were plans to turn the shuttered Fairwind Hotel in South Beach into a Kimpton. Those dreams shattered along with the economy, but now we realize that the Surfcomber is a much better entree into the Miami Beach market for Kimpton, anyway. It's bigger (186 rooms) and is in a much more coveted position, right near Delano, SLS, Raleigh, et. al.
Even better news? Kimpton is said to be looking to expand even further in South Florida, with properties in the Keys, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and other areas.
Doubletree and Hilton are honoring all bookings until April 15--and when you go to the Surfcomber website, it gives you a clearly marked choice of clicking on one button for reservations before the 15th and those after Kimpton takes charge.
Rooms for the 14th start at $269 a night--but on Kimpton's first night in the house, rates drop to $209 a night, which includes Free WiFi.
Bienvenido a Miami Beach, Kimpton!
