Where: CA, United States

Just when people start talking about how the economy is on the uptick, gas prices begin skyrocketing. Especially in the West Coast—California has the highest average gas price in the country at $3.85 a gallon, according to the LA Times.

To help travelers deal with pump prices as high as $4.69 a gallon, Cali hotels are bringing back gas packages. It's like it's 2008 all over again!

Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa are offering Cruising the Coast, a multi-destination package that includes a fuel-efficient car rental.

As part of the deal, you can choose a Prius, Mustang, Volvo C70, Mercedes E350 or similar car rental and spend a night at Loews Coronado Bay Resort or Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. If you want to make the two-hour trip between the two hotels, you'll also have the option to stay at the other Loews hotel at a 20 percent discount, and you'll get a guided map of the Pacific Coast Highway that points out hidden treasures and landmarks to visit during the road trip.

For a deluxe guestroom, prices start at $405 at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and $299 at Loews Coronado Bay Resort.
