As the World Turns, So Do The W Hotels of Our Lives
W Hotels is playing a serious game of "Around the World" having just announced a W Hotel in Mumbai due to open July 2015. While Starwood Hotels kept mum on any other plans for the 350-room hotel, DNA India has the scoop on the location:
The property is part of an iconic mix-use development christened ‘Namaste Tower’. The construction site is the erstwhile Ambika Mills land parcel located a few hundred metres south of another soon-to-open luxury hotel, Shangri-La, atop the luxury retail mall Palladium at High Street Phoenix at Lower Parel.
The Namaste Tower design is actually meant to reflect the namaste yoga gesture where two wings of the hotel are clasped together like hands greeting the city of Mumbai. Ommmm....
Meanwhile, the W Mumbai already has its own website. Disappointingly there is no mention of "Bollywood cool." Hope they fix that copy up right quick.
W Mumbai will be the pinnacle of an aggressive worldwide expansion for W Hotels in the next few years. W also announced plans for a second W Hotel in Mexico City in the Santa Fe district as well as a W Riviera Maya which will open in 2013 and 2014, respectively. W Cairo is now set for a January 2016 opening which by then we hope the political turmoil has been effectively dealt with.
Other exciting W Worldwide openings include W Paris in January 2012, W Milan in May 2012, W Athens and W Abu Dhabi in 2013, W Shanghai and W Beijing in 2014 and the W St. Petersburg which is still set for an April 20th opening. Looks like we'll have to add some extra pages to our passport now.
