Bal Harbour Has A New Hotel Called Quarzo

The St. Regis Bal Harbour may still be months away, but just like its South Beach cousin down the road, Bal Harbour has some new toys to show off in the interim. The latest hotel to hit the ritzy beach suburb is Quarzo Bal Harbour, an all-suite luxury hotel that opened quietly in December.

Some of the room photos on the Quarzo site look a little too beige for our tastes, but we dig the tropical feel of this room above, and the way it kinda says "a weekend getaway at chic grandma's beach house."

Obviously, staying in Bal Harbour is not for the party set, but it does make for a more serene getaway than you'd find in South Beach or Fort Lauderdale.

Quarzo seems to combine the experience of staying in a luxury hotel with a vacation apartment, as the suites have kitchens stocked with plates and silverware, dishwashers and microwaves, and some even have separate dining rooms.

The price tag also sounds family-friendly--we found rooms for this weekend starting at $209 a night for a Junior Suite with two queen beds or $329 a night for a 2-Bedroom Master Suite with an ocean view.

Try and find that down on Miami Beach and you're looking at 500 bucks or more. We hate to sound like nannas, but we could do with a break from the South Beach hustle every now and then. And we know what to do with that $200-300 we could save by staying further north--Bal Harbour Shops, here we come!
