W Vieques Is Hosting Its Own Gay & Lesbian Short Film Fest

There's been a few hotels this week that haven't been very accommodating to the GLBT crowd but down in Puerto Rico, it's a much warmer scene, in more ways than one.

That's because the W Retreat & Spa, Vieques is hosting its own short film festival from May 13–15. W Happenings Presents: Out On Film will feature screenings of award-winning gay and lesbian short flicks--and parties to go with them, natch.

The resort partnered with The Puerto Rico Film Foundation and CineFiesta, the Puerto Rico International Short Film Festival, on this latest artsy endeavor, emphasizing the laidback, creative vibe the island of Vieques seems so infused with.

Out On Film kicks off on May 13--Friday the 13th!--with a welcome party led by DJ Victor Rodriguez and a screening of the first set of selected shorts. Saturday afternoon is all about the SPLASH pool party on the hotel's WET Deck (pictured above), along with more short films and--what else?--a post-screening party. Sunday morning is for recovery--ie. a Bloody Mary Brunch at miX on the beach.

Tickets to the screenings are $75 per night, or $100 for a weekend pass that includes access to the Welcome Party on Friday night, the post-screening party on Saturday night and the brunch Sunday.

That's assuming you're a local or already on the island--if you want to stay at W Vieques for the festivities, there's a special package. That includes two nights (minimum) in a Tropical Oasis Room, daily breakfast buffet, that Bloody Mary Brunch, access to all of the Out On Film screenings, entry into the parties and complimentary cocktails.
