Good God! The Waldorf Hilton's New Bar Is Open
With so many new London hotels opening up and old hotels opening new bars, spas, suites and restaurants it's hard to keep up. But boy do we try!
Last week we nipped into The Waldorf Hilton's new bar and lounge Good Godfrey's. The bar is named after Howard Godfrey the former celebrity leader of the ‘Waldorfians’ the Waldorf House band in the 1920s.
We have to admit we weren't overly impressed with the decor, it felt a little too plain almost like something was missing. The cocktails however we did like, the cocktail list plays homage to the hotel's theatrical past by offering cocktails such as the "Gaiety Girls" and "Stage Door Johnnies". There are also a couple of novelty drinks, the Hot Gin Punch which is served in a large silver teapot and the Astor Hip Flask which is served in a branded hip flask.
We also sampled some of the bar food (pictured above) which is served in cute baskets and on sticks in little paper rolls. The food was simple but nice with things like prawns, fish cakes and chicken satay on offer, at £12.50 for three options it's not bad value either. The cocktails start from £12 for the Signature drinks and go up to £46 for the Hot Gin Punch although this is to share.
Whilst we were there we also managed to have a quick tour of the hotel and to be a little honest we think the whole place could do with a bit of a spruce. The good news is the front reception area is next up which will be a library themed cafe.
