Truth, War, Revolution and Five Days of Live Art at The Standard

Not Molly, but her photography and drawings
Okay a little bit more Standard Hotel New York news if you stand it. Along with Salman Rushdie adding a few books to the guestrooms at The Standard during the PEN World Voices Festival from April 25-May 1, the outdoors of the hotel will be getting a little artistic treatment themselves. Illustrator, photographer and writer Molly Crabapple will become a five-day living installation in the Plaza, as she creates large-scale original works in full public view.
No, she's not going to be sleeping outdoors, but she will be out long enough to be adored by her cult-like fan base. We'd have thought her too "alt" for The Standard's taste, since her style is heavily influenced by pin-up girls, art nouveau, steampunk and fantasy, but guess not.
Personally, we think she's great and you should totally swing by (it's free) to see her do her thing, which she describes thus: "I’m creating five giant paintings on the themes of labor, war, truth, money and revolution- but with squid and animals in funny hats."
Here's the sched:
April 25:
3:00-6:00pm - Plaza at The Standard, New York
10pm-12am- Top of The Standard
April 26-29:
1-7 pm - Plaza at The Standard, New York
So we'll see you there?
