Like It Was Made Just for Us: Hilton's New Lobby Bar and Tech Lounge

Yesterday, we hinted at the new design concepts being introduced by Hilton Hotels and Resorts at the Hilton McLean in Virgina that would change the look of the brand from top to bottom.

While we hung our hopes on some new guestroom designs, the changes here are actually happening at the lobby level. (Although we hear the Hilton McLean does sport some new guestroom designs as well.) But we're still impressed with what Hilton has put forth.

The new Hilton lobbies are meant to give off a "living room" feel* where guests can interact, work and collaborate.

The centerpiece of the lobby is a giant, 18-hour bar with a soaring interactive backdrop where guests can grab coffee, quick bites, healthy food and specialty cocktails throughout the day.

Hilton has also put together a Technology Lounge concept, a new take on the old hotel business center. Integrated into the lobby, the lounge features PC and Mac workstations and a communal work table. Not sure what other types of amenities are in the lounge but wireless printing options and iPad would be nice.

The check-in procedure has also changed with the introduction of pod-style front desks designed to give guests a more personalized service.

Hilton's put together a video and some renderings of the new design concepts here. But these are just options for owners (franchisees) of Hilton hotels. They aren't mandatory so whether or not your next Hilton stay has these designs is really at the mercy of the owner.

But if you're a Hilton owner reading this post, we strongly urge you to do it, especially that tech lounge.

* But remember, Hilton can't call them Living Rooms as per the Starwood lawsuit verdict, otherwise that would be ripping off W Hotels.
