The party kicks off at 8 p.m., when it's still light as you can see in this snap above, although things really get going around 10:30 p.m., when a second wave of people arrive ready to dance in front of the DJ booth. (DJ Umber provided the tunes, which were appropriately loungey and totes Miami.)
Unlike many lounge-like bars in South Beach, there's no cover charge to attend the Full Moon Parties, and no bottle service required either.
Cocktails on a lunar-themed list, including the Cosmic Mojito (Bacardi, lime juice, simple syrup, mint leaves and blue berry puree), are $12 each--pretty reasonable for a hotel bar beverage--and there are also small tapas plates available (such as Lemon Basil Felafel and Tandoori Chicken Flatbread) for $15 each.
What makes the Full Moon Party a great deal in our opinion, though, is the seafood/raw bar spread created by DiLido's new chef de cuisine Josh Becker. For $35 per person, you can pile your plate full of unlimited fresh shrimp, crab claws, mussels and a variety of ceviches.
Throw in some bongo playing and a few more cosmic cocktails and you have yourself a good time.
Oh, if you really do want to look at the moon in detail, there are powerful-looking telescopes set up for you to point at the sky, too. The only thing missing? A cute-as-pie Constellation Concierge to rival the hotel's daytime hottie, the Tanning Butler ...
