Chef Laurent Tourondel Is Moving Into Cassa Hotel
We thought all had been quiet on the Cassa Hotel and Residences front lately, but we take that back. It looks like the owner of the Midtown property, Waterscape Resort LLC, has filed for bankruptcy. Oh noes!
But in more positive news, there's finally some movement on the hotel's restaurant. Once upon a time (last fall), we were promised Restaurant 1945, which would open in November with a healthy, organic menu and a "voluminous sculptural setting." No dice on those plans, but we have to say, we like the new plans better anyways: Chef Laurent Tourondel--the founder of the BLT restaurants, which he is no longer partnered with--will take over the space and create "a new flagship restaurant in the form of an American Brasserie."
There aren't many details beyond this morsel so far, but after gorging on his delicious menus at BLT Steak at The Betsy Hotel in South Beach and at BLT Market at the Ritz-Carlton Central Park, we're sure there's going to be some calorific treats in store at Cassa, too.
In a press release, Tourondel said:
“Looking for a home in Manhattan, Cassa Hotel offered the perfect location and dynamic space for my next gastronomic venture. I look forward to announcing the concept shortly.”
The new spot will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as room service. Until then, guests of Cassa must make do with breakfast only, served in their rooms or in the 10th floor lounge. You can check that menu out here.
