That was fast. Merely a month after learning that the oddly-named Hyatt 48Lex would be opening in April, a Hyatt tipster tells us the date has already been pushed back again to August 1.

Unlike when we checked last month, the hotel now has a proper website (but not entirely fleshed out) where you can make rezzies. Currently, we're seeing rates for a whopping $379 a night for a studio queen. Rooms start at 375sq.ft., per our tipster, so that's like a buck a square foot and did we mention, it's a queen bed?

Will it be worth it? You can bet we'll be there opening night to find out. But in the meantime, can we have an open and honest discussion about this hotel's name? Is this SERIOUSLY what they are going to name this place?

How did this get past the Hyatt execs? It sounds a bit like someone, or some peoples, were hungover on naming day and managed to bs the boardroom into going along with Hyatt 48Lex, touting that it would be easy for guests to remember where the hotel is located. Yes, that is true but it also says a lot about the guests you are targeting.

Now that the opening date is in August, it can't be too late to change the name? Why we doubt the hotel notepads are printed yet.

are we forgetting that...

...hyatt also allowed this naming monstrosity  to happen:

"Hyatt at Olive 8"

now.  love me some hyatt design and appeal.  love the olive 8 development in seattle.  fully acknowledge that lexington avenue in manhattan is commonly referred to as "lex".  but really, will the average conventioneer from omaha understand what either of these names mean when they are booking?
