What are These 'Useless' Dials on The Beds at Hilton Garden Inn?

April 1, 2011 at 2:27 PM | by | ()

Yesterday as we were bemoaning the anti-view from the Hilton Garden Inn we noticed that Flickr member BNilsen also dropped in a shot of an interesting looking dial on the side of the bed. Ever curious, we skipped over to the Hilton Garden Inn website to find out more.

It turns out this dial is just one part of the Garden Sleep System that's installed in most every Hilton Garden Inn. The "revolutionary" bed is created from a system of something called air baffles along with oxymoronic-sounding flexible wooden slats. The bed is supposed to contour to your body by "displacing air based upon your weight and shape."

Then the dial on the side of the mattress can be used to adjust the firmness from either soft to firm or something in between. Sounds pretty cool except the caption on Bnilsen's photo was this:

The bed was rock hard-- this silly dial was no help.

Ugh. But still, A for effort for HGI.

Hilton Garden Inn Mattress

We have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn twice and have had the best sleep ever.  I normally have back pain when I wake up on our bed at home and can feel my husband getting up during the night.  On the bed at the Hilton Garden Inn, I do not feel my husband getting up and I woke up pain free each time.  Love it!!!
