What's This Red South Beach Hotel All About?

While we await some of the more high-profile new boutique hotels to open in Miami, we keep coming across others we've never heard of. Today's case in point: Red South Beach.

We can't actually remember where we saw this hotel advertised but it was enough to send us out into the wilds of the Internets to find answers. What we found was a boutique hotel that underwent a multi-million dollar renovation before opening in November.

The hotel is on Collins Ave in the 30 blocks--ie. up near The Palms Hotel and Spa--and seems to have had some growing pains, if the reviews and comments on its Facebook page are to be trusted.

Unlike some hotels on the beach, where the art on the walls is very real and very expensive, Red South Beach seems to favor a 'look the part' approach with reproductions of Renaissance-era paintings and Mondrian-esque furniture in its lobby.

Rooms start at a teeny 150 square feet in the Petite Queen category and go up to suites with a kitchen and Poolside Cabanas, which have private poolside terraces with chairs, table and curtains for privacy.

There's no availability this weekend (no doubt thanks to Ultra Music Fest in town), but we found rooms from $109 a night, for one of those Petite Queens, for the 30th.

Sure, the rooms may be shoebox sized, but we imagine that's more than enough for the kids who come to South Beach to paint the town ... er, you know.
