Even though it's March, you can still get a taste of winter at Hotel Monaco Chicago's South Water Kitchen. The restaurant bar is slinging mason jar cocktails with unusual ingredients like pickled watermelon and preserved pears. They're a nice change-up from your usual Cosmo.

Pickling, preserving and canning are all old-school rituals that people would do to preserve the fruits of the fall and summer harvests for the barren winter. In this case, those fruits go into flavorful libations like the Pickled Watermelon, which comes with Bulleit Bourbon, balsamic simple syrup, ginger beer and a pickled watermelon rind garnish made by the bar manager. The rest of the specialty cocktails include:

Canned Peaches
Bacardi 8 rum, housemade peach pit syrup, Belvedere Pomarancza vodka, fresh squeezed orange juice with muddled peaches

Preserved Pears
A blend of Plymouth and Bombay Sapphire gin, pear nectar and Lillet Blanc finished with a rosemary-pear fruit salad

Canned Applesauce
Cruzan rum, Ketel One Citron and organic Michigan applesauce with spiced chai tea and a brown sugar caramel rim

Preserved Oranges
Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Maker's Mark, orange marmalade mixed with dashes of cinnamon bitters, served over ice and topped with eggnog

Frozen Cranberries
Milagro and Don Julio tequila, muddled cranberries, Grand Marnier, lemon zest and a splash of white cranberry juice

All of the flavorful cocktails come in mason jars and go for $11. They will be on offer through March.
