Mandarin Oriental Paris rising, September 2010

It's not often that we hear of a hotel opening and our mouths start watering but that's what's happened with the forthcoming Mandarin Oriental Paris which is set to open this summer.

Aside from having dining three restaurants under the helm of two-star Michelin Chef Thierry Marx, along with an outdoor courtyard cafe and bar, the Mandarin Oriental Paris will have its very own Cake Shop. Cake Shop!

The Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop is a perfect spot for an afternoon indulgence. Overseen by executive chef Thierry Marx, the Cake Shop offers traditional French pastries in a casual yet elegant setting. Guests can choose to enjoy their delicacy with a perfectly brewed pot of tea, or have the treats beautifully packaged to take away.

Of course, we know a piece of cake can't sway an entire hotel experience but it can't hurt.

As for the rest of the hotel, this Mandarin will be nearly boutique hotel size, with 99 guest rooms and 39 suites. There's only renderings up on the website but the rooms look like typical Mandarin Oriental rooms--luxe with a hint of Asian flair--although these rooms promise "chic, contemporary French design."

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental and its swimming pool also sound like a spa wet dream, but we think the hotel's location on rue Saint-Honoré near designer shops, the Place Vendôme and the Tuileries gardens is what will ultimately lure well-heeled guests away from other expensive hotels in the city.

Reservations aren't open yet but it's a Mandarin Oriental in Paris, expect to pay at least the price of a Louis Vuitton for one night.
