Yet another London hotel is open for business, this time it’s Avo Hotel - the one and only hotel in Dalston, but not for long. The hotel opened last Thursday, March 17th, so we popped in for a gander over the weekend.
From the outside the hotel actually looks more like a shop than a hotel and the reception/breakfast area feels a little like an art gallery. But it’s the rooms that make the hotel. Each one has a cosy, homely feel to it, so much so that you almost feel like you’re staying in someone’s guest room rather than a hotel room - although from the looks of that bedspread and headboard combo, we're not so sure that's a good thing. Cheap wood fittings are more aunty's spare room than chic hotel.
The hotel itself is very small with only 6 rooms, and whilst the rooms are compact they don’t feel noticeably small. The ensuite bathrooms all have showers - you won’t find any baths here - Elemis toiletries, bathrobes, TV, DVD player and Sony iPod docking stations.
With rooms from £79 it’s not bad value either, but before you do book check out our lowdown on the local area first. There's stuff to do in Dalston for seasoned travelers, but if you're wanting to do the tourist thing, it's going to be way out of the action.
