The unification, which is referred to as "il Risorgimento" or "the Resurgence," was a 19th-century political and social movement that joined the different Italian peninsula states to a unified country. If that's a bit too geeky for you, the above view of the Bay of Salerno will make you lust after a stay at the hotel anyway.
The hotel is offering a pricey package in honor of the unification, which costs up to €540, or about $760, per night. We probably would have had to start saving pre-unification to afford that. We'll fantasize anyway.
You'll get more of that unity feeling with a special dinner for two featuring menu of Northern and Southern Italian cuisine, as part of the deal. The cost also includes a buffet breakfast; free spa entrance with access to a heated indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath and relaxation area with tea corner; a 20 percent discount on Spa Decleor products and Kent's makeup; and an Ask Me Chef Cookbook from Ragosta Hotels.
If you can break out the big bucks to mark the anniversary, the package runs through December 23.
