The Latest in High-Low Hotel Renovations

Aside from keeping tabs on which hotels have opened and which have not, we're also big fans of Hotel Renovations, especially when they are as drastic as this one from the Four Seasons Houston.

The $25 million renovation took about three years for the hotel to complete but the new guest rooms, the resort-style pool and thoroughly modern hotel lobby were worth the wait. You can glimpse the before and after pictures on Flickr. Welcome to the 21st century FS Houston! Now A-Rod will have a swanker-looking place to shack up with his blondes.

Even better, the room rates haven't gone up all that much. We found rooms next weekend for $275 a night compared to around $255 a night four years ago.

On the other end of the budget spectrum, Sleep Inn unveiled their savvy new design in Chattanooga, Tenn. last week. The updated Sleep Inn now includes the following:

· Renovated guestrooms with bright accent walls, new bedding with stylish bed scarves, and eye-catching black-and-white photo displays.
· New lobby with warm, natural finishes; unique lighting; and graphic accent wall.
· Updated breakfast area with all new furniture and contemporary artwork.

About 15 Sleep Inns now feature this new design and more are coming online soon. We're loving those neon walls. Next time we find ourselves cruising the Deep South (aka Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky) or the Midwest (Kansas), we may just pop into a Sleep Inn instead.
