The W Union Square Wants to Sketch You, Its Muse, This Fashion Week
Do you sense an extra streak of excitement in the air in New York City this week? Well, that's because New York Fashion Week officially begins this Thursday, running right through the weekend to next Thursday, February 17. As stylists, editor, buyers and wannabe scenesters pour into town, they're arranging their closets in their hotel rooms and wondering where will be the best corners to be photographed in their finery.
To indulge their (and your!) vanity, the W Union Square is enlisting the help of the BFA Illustration Program and its students from Parsons (you know Parsons; they're the school at which Project Runway set up shop) to draw portraits. From the 9th to the 17th, from 1:30 to 6:30pm in the W's Living Room, the students will sketch hotel guests and "stylish locals" (that means you) for free. And yes, you get to keep the finished product.
Forget the $20 caricatures you can buy from street artists in Times Square; these free pictures are the real deal, drawn by those trained in fashion illustration. And we're thinking it's the perfect pre-cocktail hour diversion...
