UPDATE: Turns out that the color scheme in the two photos is totally different for a reason! There are two color schemes available to the rooms: Dark Rosewood (the dark one, pictured above) and Soaped Oak - the lighter color, visible in the renderings. For new pictures of both color schemes, see after the jump.

It’s heeeeere! We’ve spent every day of the last three weeks scouring Edition Hotels’ Facebook page and website to see whether they’d put up rooms of the Edition Istanbul, and although there’s still no joy on either count, we now have our hands on the very first picture of a room. Time to play a game of 'Is It Anything Like The Renderings?'!

The good news? In size and style, it looks almost exactly like these pictures of what the rooms were meant to be like, apart from one small thing – the color scheme is totally different! It’s gone from a cool ash color on the walls and floor to a much warmer, redder wood. And even the lamps floating from the ceiling have morphed from a silvery bronze to a gold color. At the time, don’t forget, we were told that:

Designed in conjunction with Gabellini Shepherd architects, the Istanbul Edition aimed for "quiet elegance" and "modern luxury" by using a color palate of bronze and silver-gold, with extensive use of pale and dark woods.

Unless the color balance has been touched up beyond recognition, we don’t see any of that pale wood. Not even on the ceiling.

The problem is that the dark wood doesn’t go so well with the creamy-silver furniture, and we worry that the whole room will be dark – those floor-to-ceiling windows better flood the place with light during the day time.

But, you know what? We kinda like it! It looks like the inside of a sauna, which, what with it being in the home of the hammam, is fitting. And it’s definitely unlike anything we’ve seen before, for which it gets brownie points. But we'll reserve proper judgment until the candid shots come out.

No other pictures of the rooms or public areas as yet – it’ll be interesting to see whether the lobby is a little less, ummm, minimalist.

Rooms this week start at EUR 265, or $366. The "official" opening date is March 23.

Are you a fan of the sauna look, or did you prefer the colder ash tones? Let us know in comments below!

The Istanbul EDITION

I actually just came back from a stay there and they've been open since February 9th. It is absolutely the most unique and beautiful hotel that I've ever stayed.

tell us more!

what were the color schemes like, more like the renderings or the photo above? and does it feel soft openy or like it's fully open now?

Color Scheme

Hi. there are actually 2 types of rooms you can stay at in hotel: 1 dark wood room and 1 lighter colored variation.  I actually stayed in the dark room and there is such a sense of serenity when your there. It doesn't feel dark at all. Also, neither of the rooms look or feel like a sauna.
