Williamsburg's Newest Hotel Comes In Three Sizes

Though we're all still holding our breath to find out which proposal will be chosen for the new Brooklyn Bridge Park hotel, we've now been alerted to yet another hotel project sparking on the Brooklyn waterfront, this time in Williamsburg.

According to Arch Daily, Oppenheim has designed three skinny, overlapping rectangular buildings, each with a different height. The tallest of the towers, at 440' high, is intended to act as a "third pillar" of the Williamsburg Bridge. We're pretty sure the original architects only intended for the bridge to have two pillars in the first place, but hey. If Williamsburg isn't the place to be adding new pillars where pillars aren't needed, we don't know where is.

Our first reaction? This place is gonna stick out like a sore thumb wrapped in neon bandages.

South Williamsburg, though just as hip as its northern component, is much less built up. Until now, it was just the iconic Williamsburg Bridge and opulent Williamsburg Savings Bank that deviated from the standard warehouses and four-story walk-ups. Now, that landscape is about to change.

But if, as the article suggests explicitly declares, Williamsburg is one of the "most cutting edge neighborhoods in the world," surely it must be ready to embrace new ambitious designs like this?

Adding to the appeal is the hotel's Platinum LEED rating, which was achieved through combined solar, wind and geothermal power generation.

Those are all the facts for now, but be sure to check back as we follow the development of this tri-partite opus.
