Many people would say no. Those who attended or followed Bloomberg's recent press conference at the Z Hotel know that outer borough hotels are in fact a big part of the plan. The question is how many of NYC's droves of tourists will actually be persuaded to stay in these "alternative" places when there are so many options popping up right in Manhattan itself?
One block over from Hotel Williamsburg, Brownstoner alerted us to another 73-room hotel opening in inside an old textile factory. Down in Sunset Park, DJ Bijal is living out his dream with the imminent Hotel BPM, set to open before the end of the year. And as we reported yesterday, several projects have been proposed for an upcoming hotel at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
If Brooklyn, or Queens for that matter, is going to have any chance of competing with Manhattan, one thing it should focus on is rooftop bars. Nothing is more appealing to a Manhattan-hungry tourist than being able to look straight at the Manhattan skyline from their hotel room window.
Any thoughts Brooklynites? Hotel-lovers? Will Manhattan's proposed hotel boom be a detriment to its surrounding neighborhoods? Or is this all good news for the tourism industry in general? Let us know your thoughts below!
