What is This at The Hotel Bel-Air?

We like to keep it fun but informative here at HotelChatter so our newest series, What is This? is devoted to odd-looking items in hotel rooms that upon first glance look as if they serve only a decorative purpose. But everything happens for a reason, right? And we're here to tell you what these things really do.
The other week when we were perusing a Canyon View Suite at the newly reopened Hotel Bel-Air we were immediately drawn to this rectangle thingie embedded in the bed's leather headboard. What could it be? The only way to find out was to start poking at it.
So poke we did and voila! Once we pushed on it, a reading light popped out.

The light could be twisted and turned to the guest's desire and automatically turned off once you pushed it back in. Very cool and convenient.
All the beds at the hotel feature these reading lights, not just the suite ones. Good to know that you are really getting your money's worth at $565 a night.
