Seeing a demolished lobby like that—sure makes us glad we have so many others in NYC to choose from!
Says the article:
"In the past few days, workers have gutted the east wing of the building's seventh floor, an area once inhabited by novelist William S. Burroughs and actor Ethan Hawke, residents said. [Our visit] yesterday revealed that walls, doors and fixtures have been removed, leaving piles of wood and debris in their place.
Kaufman has said he planned to reconfigure the hotel's variously sized rooms."
Plans by Joseph Chetrit, the hotel's new owner, include a larger lobby, more retail space, and a new restaurant. Who knows, maybe this will give Andre Balazs something to be jealous about?
We're just glad the Donut Plant remains open.
