Cocktails and Chanel Retrospectives — the perfect combo

Taschen and Assouline have won acclaim for releasing gorgeous fashion, art, and design tomes, going head to head for prominence in the realm of luxe book publishers. It seemed that the former had a leg up when the Trump Soho decided to stock its library with mint condition Taschen books, but Assouline is playing catch up as London's Halkin hotel welcomes the Assouline Culture Lounge to its lobby bar.

The space has been transformed as a shrine to Assouline's "iconic coffee table books," a collection that includes anniversary retrospectives of major fashion houses like Dior, Chanel, and a title dedicated entirely to the Proust Questionnaire.

Guests are invited to quaff cocktails and snack on "light bites" as they pour over page after page of haute couture photography and settle into the bar's cushy climes. Author talks are scheduled for later this year as well.

In the war of aesthetic repute, we'd say the score has pretty much evened up again.

Love this

Assouline is my fave, I think, because of their "Hotel Stories" series. Don't forget, the new Hyatt 48Lex also has Assouline in the lobby and rooms.
