The Milestone London's 'Sleep Sound' Package Needs Some Work

So, your hotel room is decked out with Frette linens, a mattress so soft that even the heroine of The Princess and the Pea would find it suitable, and is bathed in soft lighting for the ultimate sleep-friendly ambiance. Just say, "Aaah"? Not if you're a hard core insomniac. For the perpetually sleep-deprived, these fluffy touches are all for nought.

Those who toss, turn, and find themselves waking in the wee hours of the morning often find time away from home more anxiety inducing than soothing on the circadian rhythms.

London's Milestone Hotel feels your pain, sleepless masses. Their Sound Sleep Experience package is a virtual rehab program for the slumber deprived, developed with the help of "internationally recognised sleep, stress and performance therapist Tej Samani." Think of it as the "zzz"-inciting equivalent to circuit training, including a one hour private consultation with Samani, a treatment at the hotel's therapy room, gift bag of yawn friendly items (lavender eye mask and aromatherapy oils, notch), a choice from their pillow menu (yes, really), turndown service, and a detox breakfast the following morning.

The Financial Times recently reviewed the package, recalling the effects of a full-on day of sandman therapies:

Alas, sleep did not come. I turned the light back on and instead of counting sheep counted cushions, throws, footstools and pouffes, pelmets and flounces. I nibbled on a bit of scone with lovely homemade jam that had been left in the room earlier.

At £813.33 per night, we'd expect a hell of a lot more from the hotel's purported experts in the art of sleeping. If you have money to burn, giving the package a whirl couldn't hurt, sure, but we wouldn't expect a Rip Van Winkle-worthy hibernation from it.

Crowne Plaza? Is that you?

Um, doesn't this sound like Crowne Plaza's "Sleep Advantage"

  • Lavender linen spray
  • eye mask
  • ear plugs
  • night light
  • drape clip
  • guaranteed wake-up call
  • a quiet zone floor
  • and the former sleep CD with relaxing music and sleep tips from a sleep doctor
