While there were no big blockbuster hotel openings this year, Miami saw the opening (finally!) of the Dream South Beach and the Hotel Breakwater. LA saw two new hotels rise from the ashes of older buildings and is now awaiting the reopening of the grand Hotel Bel-Air which happens...tomorrow!!
· Dream South Beach
Much like the Dream Downtown in NYC, the South Beach property kept getting deferred, er delayed. After multiple opening dates the hotel eventually half-opened as the Palmer House for several months before finally coming true in June.
· Viceroy Beverly Hills
The change from a L'Ermitage to a Viceroy is taking forever. We're hearing that Viceroy Hotels' in-house designer Kelly Wearstler finally got the go ahead to start putting her signature designs on the place. That said, we bet the change will happen in late 2012.
Cipriani Mr. C Los Angeles: The hotel was initially set to open in April but actually opened in early June. Still, it's a pretty spectacular new property for Los Angeles, considering it was once the ho-hum Tower Beverly Hills hotel. Not sure what room to book? Allow us to help.
· Hotel Bel-Air (reopening)
We are chomping at the bit waiting to see what the finally revamped Hotel Bel-Air will look like! We thought we'd get a peek in July but actually the hotel is set to open October 14 which is TOMORROW! We are actually on a waiting list to stay the night. But hopefully, we'll have some snaps for you next week.
That's all the updates that we have so far. Know of another new hotel opening in LA or Miami in the next couple of months? Even better, know of any major hotel delays? Keep us informed!
