The last time we checked in on the SLS Miami, formerly known as the Ritz Plaza Miami Beach, we learned that when it opens sometime in 2012, it would probably not be a Starwood Hotel. That we were cool with if only just a tad intrigued about what was going on behind the scenes with SLS and Starwood.

But now we're concerned about something else--will this hotel really open in 2012?

Our man on the beat in Miami, Gregg Rory, sent us these sad snapshots saying:

They finished replacing all the windows but removed all the advertising from the temporary walls around the property. Cipriani Miami and EDITION Miami will probably open before Ritz Plaza aka SLS South Beach.

Gregg also pointed out that the SLS South Beach Twitter feed (@SLSSouthBeach) has no tweets to its name. The same emptiness can be found on the hotel's Facebook page as well.

As for that opening date, SLS hotelier Sam Nazarian apparently tweeted back in August that SLS South Beach would open in March 2012 with a Hyde nightclub and restaurant from chef Jose Andres.

To be fair (see? we're already making good on our New Year's resolutions), that is quite a bit of time to finish a hotel, especially since the structure is already built. But these pics are not encouraging. Hopefully, 2011 will start to see some actual work on the hotel's interior.

Anyone got any scoop on what's going on with SLS South Beach and when we really may actually be able to spend a night here? Let us know!

Coming up tomorrow--retro snapshots of the Ritz Plaza! You'll be shocked at how much it used to cost to stay there!
